Verification code input

A field split into separate cells, one for each character of a one-time code.

Also called: otp, otp input, one time password, one-time code, verification code, confirmation code, sms code, text message code, code input, pin, pin code, pin input

What it is for

It makes the code easier to read as you type it. Focus jumps to the next cell automatically, and pasting a code from the clipboard works. The code is often checked automatically as soon as the last digit is entered.

Where you see it

  • Security — entering a code from an authenticator app (2FA)
  • Banking — confirming transactions
